3D Cloud Scan is an imaging option in the Parable app that uses data points from multiple 2D images to digitally capture topographic measurements of a wound/lesion.

3D Cloud Scans automatically measure length, width, and depth, volume; additionally, the wound's real Surface Area is measured--a critical metric for evaluating healing progression.

3D Cloud Scanning uses your device's built-in camera and does not require any additional sensor hardware.

Unlike 2D Smart Photos, which do not measure depth or volume, 3D Cloud Scans capture volume and depth data and produce 3D models you can freely examine and rotate in-app or on the web dashboard.

Note: 2D Smart Photo is only available on iOS on iPhone 6s or newer iPhone / iPad devices.

Performing 3D Cloud Scans

When you start an assessment in Parable, select the "3D Cloud Scan" option as your imaging type.   

The first time you perform a Smart Photo, you'll see an on-screen visualization of the scanning process, along with instructions. You can review these instructions again at any time by pressing the "?" icon at the top right of the screen.

1. First, position your device for a clear view directly over the center wound, then tap "Start Scan"
2. Gray arches will appear on-screen to guide your scan
3. Begin scanning by moving your device along any of the arches from the center out to the edges (and back)   
   • Scan over and across the wound by following each arch like a 'track' or guideline
   • Tilt and align your device to match the curvature of the arches as you scan
4. Successfully scanning turns the arches from gray to yellow, indicating those angles have already been scanned
   • This process ensures the wound is scanned from a variety of angles, refining the resulting measurements 
5.  Once both arches are fully yellow, scanning is complete

Tracing

After saving your scan, you'll automatically proceed to tracing. Toggle between different tracing options at the bottom of the screen. In-app guidance is available for each tracing type by pressing the "?" icon at the top-right.

After an acceptable outline has been traced, the 2D Smart Photo process is complete, and you can proceed with Supporting Photos and Clinical Documentation.
